Revolut Review: The Super App for International Money

Revolut is a UK-based fintech super-app founded in 2015, offering banking, currency exchange, international transfers, crypto, stock trading, and more — all in one app. With 50+ million customers globally, it is one of the most feature-rich financial apps available.

Background

Revolut was founded by Nikolay Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko in London in 2015. It holds a full banking licence in the EEA via Revolut Bank UAB (Lithuania), with deposits protected up to €100,000. In the UK, Revolut received full banking authorisation in March 2026 (the operating restrictions from its 2024 mobilisation licence were lifted), bringing £85,000 FSCS protection as customers migrate to the new bank entity. It also operates under e-money licences in other regions.

Key Features

Currency Exchange: Exchange 30+ currencies at interbank rates (within plan limits). The Standard plan includes £1,000/month of fee-free exchange; paid plans remove this limit.

International Transfers: Send money to 160+ countries, often at lower cost than traditional bank wire transfers.

Revolut Card: Visa/Mastercard debit card with ATM withdrawals in most countries (free up to monthly limits).

Crypto: Buy, sell, and hold 280+ cryptocurrencies directly in the Revolut app. Note: you don't hold the actual crypto keys — Revolut holds them custodially.

Stocks: Commission-free stock trading with 4,000+ instruments and fractional shares. (Commodities exposure is being wound down in some European markets — check availability for your country.)

Revolut <18: Junior accounts for children, supervised by parents.

Revolut Business: Business accounts with multi-currency, expense management, and API access.
