Nuri is gone — Revolut is the best all-round replacement
Nuri shut down in 2022. This guide explains what happened and ranks the best crypto-friendly account and card alternatives that are alive and well in 2026.

If you came here looking for the Nuri (formerly Bitwala) crypto bank account, the important thing first: Nuri shut down. This page now explains what happened and points you to the best alternatives that are actually operating in 2026.
What happened to Nuri?
Nuri filed for insolvency on 9 August 2022, after the crypto bear market and the collapses of Terra/Luna, Celsius and FTX dried up its funding. Operations ceased in October 2022, and existing Nuri customers were migrated to the German neobank Vivid Money. The Nuri brand and domain were later sold to new owners, so anything you see under the "Nuri" name today is unrelated to the original company.
One wrinkle worth knowing: Bitwala, the brand Nuri originally grew out of, relaunched in 2023 and is operating in 2026 (Bitcoin trading, euro SEPA account and a Visa debit card via a partner). Reviews are mixed, though, so treat it as one option to evaluate carefully rather than a like-for-like Nuri replacement — and verify it's currently operating and licensed in your country before depositing.
Do not try to deposit funds into the old Nuri service. If you still had a Nuri balance, follow the migration notices you received (Vivid Money) or contact your deposit-protection scheme.
Best Nuri alternatives in 2026
Nuri's appeal was a single app that combined a euro bank account, a card, and crypto. Here's how to get that today, ranked by how well they replace it.
1. Revolut — best all-round replacement
Revolut is the closest thing to "everything Nuri did, but bigger." You get a euro IBAN, a Visa or Mastercard, multi-currency travel features, and the ability to buy, hold and exchange Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other coins in the same app. It's a licensed bank in supported EEA countries (deposits protected up to €100,000) and an e-money provider elsewhere. For most former Nuri users, this is the simplest switch. See how it stacks up against N26 in our N26 vs Revolut comparison.
2. A dedicated crypto card — best for spending crypto
If your priority was spending crypto with a card, a dedicated crypto-card account does that better than Nuri ever did. The Crypto.com Visa card and the Binance card both let you spend crypto-funded balances with cashback. (Cashback rates and availability change often — check current terms.)
3. N26 — best for everyday EU banking (no crypto)
If what you actually relied on was the bank account half of Nuri — salary, IBAN, deposit protection — N26 is a full German-licensed bank with €100,000 deposit protection and genuinely fee-free card spending abroad. It doesn't do crypto, so pair it with Revolut or a crypto exchange if you need that.
4. Bitwala — the actual successor, with caveats
Bitwala relaunched in 2023 and is the spiritual continuation of Nuri (BTC trading + euro account + Visa debit). It may suit you, but reviews are mixed and it's smaller than the others here — so do your own diligence and confirm it's licensed and operating in your country before committing funds.
How to move your money
- If you were a Nuri customer, follow the official migration route (Vivid Money) or your deposit-protection scheme — never the old Nuri app.
- Open your chosen alternative (Revolut is the fastest all-round setup).
- Move euros via SEPA, and if you held crypto, transfer it to your new provider or a hardware wallet for safekeeping.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nuri still operating in 2026?
No. Nuri filed for insolvency in August 2022 and ceased operations in October 2022. Its customers were moved to Vivid Money, and the brand was sold. Don't deposit money into the old Nuri service.
What's the best replacement for Nuri?
For most people, Revolut — it combines a euro account, a card, and crypto in one app, and it's widely available. If you only need crypto spending, a dedicated crypto card is better; if you only need a bank account, N26 is excellent.
What happened to my Nuri account and Bitcoin?
Nuri customers were migrated to Vivid Money; deposits were handled under the applicable protection scheme. Follow the official notices you received — do not use the old Nuri website to access funds.
Is Bitwala the same as Nuri?
Bitwala is the brand Nuri grew out of; it relaunched in 2023 and operates separately from the (now sold) Nuri brand. It offers crypto + euro banking, but with mixed reviews — evaluate it carefully and confirm it's licensed in your country.

Curve Review
One card that combines all your other cards. Now rebranded 'Curve Pay', it's a handy travel and spending wallet in the UK and EEA — but it's not a bank, and the US version was shut down in 2024.
Best for: A genuinely useful card-combining wallet — just remember it's not a bank

N26 vs Revolut
We've banked with both for years. N26 is the better everyday EU bank account (salary, IBAN, deposit protection); Revolut wins for travel, multi-currency, and crypto.
Best for: EU banking & salary (N26) — or travel, FX & crypto (Revolut)

Revolut
The fintech super-app: multi-currency banking, near-interbank FX, crypto and stock trading in one place. Best for travel and multi-currency, and now a fully licensed bank in the EEA and UK.
Best for: The most feature-packed money app for travel and multi-currency
